AAPM Task Group 264: The safe clinical implementation of MLC tracking in radiotherapy

نویسندگان

چکیده

The era of real-time radiotherapy is upon us. Robotic and gimbaled linac tracking are clinically established technologies with the clinical realization couch in development. Multileaf collimators (MLCs) a standard equipment for most cancer systems, therefore MLC potentially widely available technology. has been subject theoretical experimental research decades was first implemented patient treatments 2013. AAPM Task Group 264 Safe Clinical Implementation Tracking Radiotherapy Report charged to proactively provide broader radiation oncology community (a) implementation guidelines including hardware, software, indications use, (b) commissioning quality assurance recommendations based on early user experience, as well Failure Mode Effects Analysis, (c) discussion potential future developments. deliverables from this report include: an explanation its historical development; terms definitions relevant tracking; benefit of, experience guidelines, example worksheets; decision pathway, outlook overall recommendations.

Verification of monitor unit calculations for non-IMRT clinical radiotherapy: report of AAPM Task Group 114.

The requirement of an independent verification of the monitor units (MU) or time calculated to deliver the prescribed dose to a patient has been a mainstay of radiation oncology quality assurance. The need for and value of such a verification was obvious when calculations were performed by hand using look-up tables, and the verification was achieved by a second person independently repeating th...

The management of imaging dose during image-guided radiotherapy: report of the AAPM Task Group 75.

Radiographic image guidance has emerged as the new paradigm for patient positioning, target localization, and external beam alignment in radiotherapy. Although widely varied in modality and method, all radiographic guidance techniques have one thing in common--they can give a significant radiation dose to the patient. As with all medical uses of ionizing radiation, the general view is that this...

Clinical implementation of the AAPM Task Group 36 recommendations on fetal dose from radiotherapy with photon beams: A head and neck irradiation case report

We present the results of our efforts in estimating and diminishing the fetal dose expected when a 29-year-old patient, 22 weeks pregnant, received external beam radiation therapy for a squamous cell carcinoma of the tongue. We explain our use of the information contained, and recommendations made, in the Report of the American Association of Physicists in Medicine Radiation Therapy Committee T...

Real-time dynamic MLC tracking for inversely optimized arc radiotherapy.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Motion compensation with MLC tracking was tested for inversely optimized arc radiotherapy with special attention to the impact of the size of the target displacements and the angle of the leaf trajectory. MATERIALS AND METHODS An MLC-tracking algorithm was used to adjust the MLC positions according to the target movements using information from an optical real-time posi...
